Creature Feature: Life Insurance Advice for 6 Classic Movie Monsters

Every October, the ghouls and goblins from the golden age of horror films crawl out of their black and white screens to terrify us again. They may have survived curses, full moons and some very angry villagers, but even the most terrifying creatures could use some help from our agents!

This year, we’re having the life insurance discussion that six legendary monsters have been putting off for centuries. From unusual applications to finding coverage that suits, here’s what those conversations might look like.

#1: Dracula

You may be thinking that life insurance isn’t needed for Dracula because he plans to live forever. But an agent knows that coverage is about the people who rely on you. A count with a castle full of staff and a few brides has plenty of people depending on him, and a surprise sunrise could quickly change his plans.

A guy who thinks in centuries would probably appreciate permanent coverage such as whole life, which is designed to last a lifetime (as long as the premiums are paid). Whole life can also build cash value over time, which could come in handy for a count with several hundred years of castle repairs ahead.

#2: Frankenstein

Having a patchwork body assembled from many different parts definitely makes the conversation with Frankenstein a bit more complicated. An agent would need to explain the importance of starting an application with honest answers to health questions and being upfront from the very beginning as this is what will help him end up with the right policy.

This conversation should also go over what exactly Frank wants his coverage to accomplish. That might mean helping with final expenses or leaving something behind for the few friends who stuck by him. They may be the only people in town who aren’t carrying pitchforks, so he would want to make sure they are taken care of. An agent’s training helps them listen closely to ask thoughtful questions and find a plan that fits, even when the story is unlike anything they’ve heard before.

#3: The Mummy

The Mummy has been resting for thousands of years, meaning he would wake up to a very different world. The original plans he made long ago would not match his life anymore.

This makes him a perfect example of why agents encourage clients to review their coverage and beneficiaries whenever life changes. A policy that once made perfect sense may not fit your needs today. Marriages, new homes, kids and new careers are all great reasons to take another look. And while the Mummy was getting some shut-eye, his policy may have been accumulating cash value along the way! A quick review, along with timely check-ins when a payment is missed, helps to keep the plan up to date and in force, even for someone who has spent centuries wrapped up in a tomb.

#4: The Wolf Man

The wolf man’s life changes dramatically once a month, and he worries that one of his nighttime rampages will leave his family financially ruined someday.

An agent might suggest term life coverage for a specific period of time. Term coverage also tends to be more affordable than permanent coverage, which leaves some room in the budget for a very thick set of curtains for full moon nights.

An agent would help him estimate how much coverage his family would need to handle their everyday expenses, from the mortgage to the grocery bills, if he were no longer around to bring home a paycheck. That way, the people who love him, hairy or not, would have one less thing to worry about.

#5: The Creature from the Black Lagoon

The creature loves his home in the lagoon and wants to be certain that no one could drain it if something were to happen to him and he could no longer make his payments.

He makes a perfect case for mortgage protection, a type of policy designed to help keep families in their homes if the worst happens. A home is often one of the biggest investments a person has, so protecting it should be a top priority. The agent would walk him through how the coverage works, how long it lasts and how it lines up with his remaining payments. Thanks to this policy, all his fish friends get to stay right where they are.

#6: The Invisible Man

The Invisible Man has spent years sneaking around, terrifying those who are unsuspecting. He now wants a quiet life with a comfortable porch, a nice rocking chair and neighbors who wave hello, even if all they can see is a floating pair of glasses. He doesn’t want to disappear entirely, just step away from the daily grind.

That makes him a great match for an annuity, a product designed to generate income during retirement years. An agent would walk him through how it works and whether it fits his goals. With the right plan in place, he can finally sit back and relax where the only thing that disappears is his financial worry.
